INfo & INsight: Innovation at ASCAP "I Create Music" Expo
The EXPO had an amazing line up of talent including
Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Jackson Browne, Linda
Perry and Steve Miller to name but a few. We didn’t
get to see any of them! Instead, our time was spent
meeting and talking to an array of talented
songwriters and would be, dare I say it, stars! It
was three days well spent, meeting and sharing
stories with fascinating, talented, creative,
like-minded people. We even had entertainment at the
Innovation booth, provided by Liah and Kelly of Left
on Red, we loved your serenade of “High Heel Blues.”
There were a few moments that solidified people’s
perception of Innovation; “hey Innovation you’re
having way too much fun over there”, our new friend
Deanna said.
It’s true, at Innovation we believe in music, we have fun and we work hard.
As co-sponsors of the closing reception,
Innovation offered an opportunity for eight talented
songwriters to perform their material. Over the
course of the event we spent our evenings listening
to over three hundred submissions from EXPO
attendees. We had to function with minimal sleep.
Given the amount of work required of us as
co-sponsors of the closing reception for the event,
we had no choice!
Because of the wonderful people we met, we
didn’t care. Their infectious energy enabled us to
break through the “zombie factor” and have an
enjoyable time. This culminated with us announcing
the winners of the performance opportunity;
Congratulations to the talented songwriters that were
selected (pictured with Innovation's own Kwanza
Jones): Arsonic, Rob Heath, Andrea Hamilton, Kenny
Woods, Karina Nuvo, Stan Swiniarski, and Ryan
Dilmore.
To everyone we had the chance to meet, it was an absolute pleasure and we wish you nothing but success in this business we call show. We hope you found the EXPO to be beneficial to chasing your dreams and you got a whole lot of “learning.”
